Convert ASF(WMV) format to AVI?

been reading quite a bit on converting asf or wmv to avi or other format but none worked. anybody here completed this before? please let other users know the tools and commands. thanks.

Try ffmpeg in terminal.

What exactly have you tried so far, and what codecs etc have you got on your system?

i've done this before... it produces only an avi file with audio only... i also used mencoder and asfbin...

That's odd as I can do it with no problem, without adding any other configuration options for audio or video quality. Have you got all the codecs and libav* packages that are needed?
