View Full Version : [ubuntu] Root Password Set

Hi All,

This is my first post, but if anyone can help that would be great!

I've just installed Ubuntu 11.10, I set a password for my account, but then removed it as I couldn't be doing with signing in and out etc.

I then ran updates for the first time, and to update it is now asking for a root password?

I can't seem to set this in the terminal from the rest of the messages I have seen, is anyone aware of what I actually need to do?

Thanks!
James

You need a password to carry out admin tasks

see here http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

Thanks for your response, is this to reset the root password or account password?

Either way, I don't see why this couldn't have been chosen during installation?

You don't set the root password in Ubuntu, you use sudo with your password. See here
