Hello,
I am trying to install Ubuntu from Wubi for the first time.
When I used the regular installer, I got a message saying
Gave up waiting for root device - Common problems are
-Boot args (cat/proc/cmdline)
-Check rootdelay=(did the system wait long enough?)
-Check root=(did the system wait for the right device?)
-Missing modules (cat/proc/modules; is/dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/8c44-4dba does not exist. Dropping to a shell.
so I used the advice on the thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1880031
and put the installation ISO and the Wubi.exe file on my desktop before installing.
The installation works, but whenever I try to boot up Ubuntu I get the error:
Could not find the iso /ubuntu/install/installation.iso This could happen if the file system is not clean because of an operating system crash, an interrupted boot process, an improper shutdown, or unplugging of a removable device without first unmounting or ejecting it. To fix this, simply reboot into windows, let it fully start, log in, run 'chkdsk /r', then gracefully shut down and reboot back into windows. After this you should be able to reboot again and resume installation.
I tried using chkdsk /r but this did not cause any changes. There is a ~700 MB file called installation.iso at /ubuntu/install.
Reinstalling hasn't helped.
If you have any ideas, I would really appreciate it. Also, please keep in mind that I'm new to this and have a low level of technical skill.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu version 11.10 off of Windows 7.
Thanks again
