upgrade via live cd/dvd

has there ever been any talk of being able to upgrade via live CD/DVD ??? I am just curious if that would may e be a little less buggy than the update manager.
I'm not knocking the update manager cuz I wouldn't have 11.10 without it as for some reason (and I believe its just a lack of drivers for newer hardware) the 11.10 disk won't even boot on my computer. 10.04 boots fine but with no network configuration and basic VGA. anyway I'm not here to troubleshoot. just curious if there is any rumors of a live CD/DVD upgrade option in the future.

First of all I don't recommend upgrades in general.

If you choose to do so anyway, upgrading using a CD/DVD will lead you to the system as of the release date (which needs updating afterwards). The proces will be one step shorter if you upgrade online.
