My friend just gave me a little Packard Bell notebook which I'm trying to get Ubuntu on to. There's no disk drive so I'm trying to install via USB drive. I've correctly loaded the USB drive with the iso using both uNetbootin and the Universal USB Creator, and I get in to the same problem each time.

When I reboot and try to boot from the USB, it seems to say something about SYSLINUX on the command line, but only appears for a few seconds, and then I am shown the name, build number of the Intel BIOS, and then it just hangs. Any suggestions, need Linux on this laptop asap

Thanks!!!

Hi,

I assume the notebook can boot from USB and you set it to do so in BIOS?

I would check the integrity of the image as a first step:
