I just re-installed 10.04 LTS, and I forgot to check the 'Import Settings] [etc] from the old 10.04 LTS.

I do have the previous install cloned to an external drive, but how do I get settings / wireless drivers imported? Where do I copy them from / to???

I can't get that machine online, til I get the wireless back in...

ed.:
And how do I get my legacy GRUB copied back in?

as far as grub legacy:

as far as settings, well depends on what settings you mean. Lot of them will be found in fact in your /home, you could copy them from there, but you should do it as the current user.
If it is other things as drivers, this may be more files. Hw did you install them in first place?

I think you are correct about most 'settings' being found in /home. I was successful in some similar task once long ago with a few browser settings.

It's better for your own learning and cognitive processes to explain a solution to a problem, rather than linking out to some source (even if the source has a perfect answer).

That being said, I imagine you have linked to user 'Kansasposter's GRUB legacy thread??? Incidentally, he has done what I refer to . Explain a situation and the solution. It makes you a better learner, AND problem solver.

But we humans don't like 'work', of course, physical or mental...

To answer the other question; the laptop was in another hardwire-accessible location for the other install. Which I'm at now.

I guess by 'settings', only the wireless module is really necessary; then I can connect that machine, and search myself.

Thanks tho'...
