Hi!

I tried to install opera using .deb package (from opera web-site), but software centre said that it cannot open the package...
Then I installed it in ~/Home/.local/bin using .tar package but when I tried to launch opera, it said "permission denied". What's the problem?

Thanks!

I installed it a few days ago with these instructions.

http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/841/ (http://www.opera.com/support/kb/view/841/)

Once the deb and key are added you should be able to use

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install opera

Or this one:
http://stream-recorder.com/forum/install-opera-repository-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-t6506.html (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/install-opera-repository-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-t6506.html)

I don't think it matters what version of Ubuntu you have to use this site.

Applications > Internet > Opera

I would drag it to the top panel for an easy way to access it.
I have terminal, Firefox and Opera there at the top left next to system.
Once you drag it there, you can right click on it and then click on move to set each as you like.

Applications/ - you mean in the Software centre, isn't it?
I have nothing there...

I mean Applications at the top left of the screen.

I prefer Firefox with Noscript and WOT addons. But, there is some work to do with Noscript.
WOT (Web of Trust) is an addon that will display green circles besides known good site and yellow circles beside iffy sites and red beside known bad sites.
It's not perfect but, it helps.

You can also add WOT to Opera I found out.

Some sites won't work with Firefox and Noscript, which is why I added Opera.

Ok! Thanks a lot!
It turns out that Ubuntu is much better that I thought initially :)

The more you use it and get familiar with it the better it gets. This forum is a good place to get help.

Also, googling for answers helps a lot too since many people have had a lot of the same issues.

Windows --> viruses, defragmenting your hard drive, etc.
Ubuntu ---> no worries.
