this isn't any kind of software issue. it's not about how to get adobe flash properly working, or what kind of graphics adapter i have. i just can't connect to youtube.

i tried different browsers, cleared my hosts file and restarted, but still nothing.
even if i try to ping www.youtube.com i get 'unknown host'

i can connect to any other website.

AND, i can connect to youtube on the same machine, as long as i reboot into windows.

i though it'd be something i bricked, so i tried booting from a debian live cd, and a ubuntu live cd, and i still can't get youtube.

so, it's not the hosts file, it's not some arcane setting that was modified, it's not a software issue. i tried to check whether it was down, but downornot.com/youtube gives me a 'over quota' error.

so, is youtube down for anyone else? or am i just unlucky?

Depending on what version of Ubuntu you are running, I have the same problem with the forums, if I let Network-manager set my network connection automagically. To work around the problem, I set a static ip address and enter my isp's dns addresses in Network-manager->IPv4 Settings.
