I have a laptop that I use both during the day and at home. When at home I have a docking station with a monitor to the left of the laptop screen, which I leave up. During the day I don't have the second monitor, so there is only one monitor.
I just recently switched from GNOME 3 to KDE, and everything looks good, but I've found that taking the laptop out of the docking station and running it causes the display to extend to the left even though there is nothing there. I have screenshots to show what I'm talking about. I'll add a screenshot of the cube tonight when I'm docked.
Because there's no display there, I can't see anything on the left half of the screen.
I use the nvidia-current drivers. Would xorg.conf have a way to load code conditionally?
