I have an hp media server ( not sure which version )
The server has no video ports whatsoever.

I put Ubuntu 10.04 on the hard drive using my main box that.
However when I put the drive back into the hp it won’t boot.

How can I diagnose this? I'm assuming with logs but I have no idea how.

Also I remember Ubuntu 10.04 having some boot issues without a monitor attached, does anyone know more about this?

You could hook up that hdd to the main box and navigate to the logs folder, /var/log/. Try looking at dmesg.
