I googled around for MSRP and it said like $2k...seriously?

The specs don't seem impressive enough to justify that.

It's not worth it imho. It's a niche market and you must be mad to pay that much money for what you get.

They should have just ported AmigaOS to run on x86 hardware or even better open sourced it.

I like the chassis but you can buy that from http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&category=2&prod=71

Nice review http://www.solie.ca/files/0e0dea75818f2aab94fd140f2851f697-14.html

I can't see this lasting or being a sustainable business as the market is just to small.

PS I use to be a die hard amiga nut but some things you just have to let go...

I dunno, the following specs for a current-gen AmigaOS4.x machine seems like a bargain at 2k.

PA Semi Dual-core PA6T-1682M, nominal 2.0GHz (1.8GHz standard) PowerISA™ v2.04+ CPU
"Xena" 500MHz XMOS XS1-L2 124
ATI Radeon R700 graphics card
2GB RAM
500GB Hard drive
22x DVD combo drive
customised case, keyboard and mouse
7.1 channel HD audio
Ports and connectors:

4x DDR2 RAM slots
10x USB 2.0
1x Gigabit Ethernet
2x PCIe x16 slots (1x16 or 2x8)
2x PCIe x1 slots
1x Xorro slot
2x PCI legacy slots
2x RS232
4x SATA 2 connectors
1x IDE connector
JTAG connector
1x Compact Flash

I'd love to buy one when I can afford it.

Love the fact the guy has a NeXT Cube and a pile of Mac Minis on his desk as well.

What?

You can buy a decent high end gaming rig for that price!

+2

I won't do much else than buy parts, I won't pay more than about $1300.- for a complete set of parts (ie., enough to make a beast), and I won't settle for less than i7 with ~4Gb of RAM at the moment.

I post this from my i7-860@2.8GHz with 12GB of RAM, commensurate 1GB video card and the stupid amount of HDD space that I can actually fill if I really try and don't mind repeating myself a bit

That looks pretty awesome!

I've no idea how those dual powerpc chips fare, or what that 'custom' chip is meant to do, but I still think it's a bit special.

Haven't used an Amiga since the A1200 - but I always thought Workbench was a terrific OS.

If you want to have a remake system, get a Commodore. Remember, they're back too:

The PPC chips are more than capable of running AmigaOS & the apps at great speed seeing how 'light/compact' the OS is.

Yeah, it's a great OS. Just a pity commodore could not sell/market water to people starving of thirst in a desert.
