I can think of two possibilities; an extremely rare coincidence or a minor error on the site.

Choosing a shorter data span shows some ups, but not many, looks like an error to me..

IIRC that ranking only means how many people visit the distrowatch page of each distro. And it looks like people have finally stopped caring about distrowatch. It's about time, too.

I don't really think that this means anything, if you look further on down the list I see ups and downs. I don't think this is an error, this may actually be true.

Just went there and refreshed it to the last 7 days..Whatever was going on,they fixed it.
