Minor version of gPhoto

I have Ubuntu 11.10, which includes gPhoto2 2.4.11.

I need to upgrade this to use gPhoto 2.4.12.

I only need to use the libgPhoto2 library and cmd line tool, as this is a minor upgrade can I just symlink to the new library like in the slakware days, or is there a better way?
