Hi Guys !! I need your help to support some ideas about Unity usability. Here they are:

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/29178/

It's fairly mild, about 7 degrees.

I have lots of kin near London.

I like to use the download mirror at the university there.

They have an awesome computer science program.

Sweet!

Whether your idea gets accepted or not, you're going about it the right way.

Just keep going. :D

It looks like each time I post the unity problems elsewhere people want to move me to another place with my questions/suggestions .... :) So far I think I posted on 10 different websites/forums/launchpads etc .... I see why some people could be frustrated :) ...It looks like the only place I did not post my stuff was here .... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mark-Shuttleworth/27064736372

but it in the line

:)

Instead of posting on forums, why not post on the places already provided, mailing lists, and design web sites. There are the Ayatana and ubuntu-devel mailing lists, and the Canonical design website. This (http://www.ubuntu.com/community/get-involved), is a good place to start.

One idea per brainstorm, otherwise it gets too difficult to maintain.

Ideas 2 and 3 have been fixed in Precise already. The reveal mode has been set to "push" - you now have to push your cursor past the left edge of the screen to activate the launcher.
Idea 5 has been bandied around and I believe it'll be addressed in Precise too.
Idea 6 is a bit redundant as the Ubuntu devs are going to eventually implement a menu-replacement feature into the HUD. NOTE TO POTENTIAL FLAMERS: The part of the HUD that will replace the menu has NOT been written yet. The "type to search" function is NOT THE MENU REPLACEMENT.

Ideas 1, 4, and 7 I would support. As options.

It's not "developers." It is the opinion of one.

And his description of his reaction to the Unity interface when it was introduced by Shuttleworth is worth noting:

And then, at UDS Brussels, Mark unveiled Unity. I remember exactly that second. At the moment he announced Unity, my instinctive reaction was "facepalm". What is he thinking?

Interesting. No usage analysis, no trial, no examination of the pros and cons of such a GUI. His response is the same as a 13-year-old girl when her mother presents an ugly cardigan for her to wear.

"Eeew. I don't like this."

Sorry, but I just have trouble respecting someone who offers a knee-jerk response to an issue that requires investigation, analysis and nuance.

TL;DR meh.
