some people when updating ubuntu just update the browser and some security patches i once also did that but please dont do that it will make your system unstable my system took more time to boot it was a litle less responsive it is due to that many uodates are interconnected to each othe means one update need the help of another update to execute itself so dont run partial upgrade run full upgrade
