I have an olde laptop running Lucid (v10.04).
I have a new laptop running Ocelot (v11.10) ... I can't spell "on-er-whatsit".
I want to migrate $HOME from Lucid to Ocelot.
I know 100 ways to pick up the olde $HOME contents and write them on the new laptop. I don't know how to prevent the olde distro apps and session details from causing havoc with the new $HOME contents and corresponding apps and session details.
I could put the olde $HOME contents into a folder like dot-olde_home on the new $HOME folder, then pick and choose among the contents in the "visible" files and folders (names without leading dot). Is there some way to know which of the "hidden" files and folders (names WITH leading dot) are valuable in the new environment and application editions?
