I have an old pentium 3 thinkpad that I would like to convert into a cheap touchscreen tablet. I'm planing on buying one of those resistive touchscreen kits off ebay and rebuilding it into a bedside/around the house tablet. Just something with a nice heads up clock weather email news type thing. probably home theater pc control too.

Attach it to a wireless controller and output it to your TV, and run it with Gelide and some emulators for old games.

I have an old PII Thinkpad myself that was running Puppy Linux like a champ. It's been finally laid to rest, but Puppy gave it a nice long and happy life.

[-o< R.I.P. trusty old PII

I also have an old Thinkpad with a 700Mhz Celeron, runs elinks like a boss! :)

The 10GB HDD's S.M.A.R.T data only shows about 60 days of power on time. :shrugs:

dunno, a Raspberry Pi costs about 25$ and has 700mhz

maybe sort of "provide everything on wifi" (usb printer and stuff shared through wifi network 'n firewall) + media center?

Upgrade the RAM to 1GB+ and install Arch + Openbox ;)

I have a PIII 1.1Ghz R31 w/512 RAM running Lubuntu 11.10. It doesn't 'scream' but it's usable for basic web browsing(no flash) and running office apps.
