Prepared a Live CD for 11.10 to test whether Ubuntu will work for me. Banshee plays .wav files, but I haven't been able to play .mp3 files or have my radio stations work. Sometimes I get failed search messages for plugins. Haven't been able to find any useful documentation about what causes might be. For example, I have radio playlists that are formatted a couple different ways which Windows Media Player accepts, but Banshee doesn't like them. Simply going to station and clicking on Listen Live type links does not work -- nothing happens although "connecting" displays. Probably missing some simple explanation.

You need to install ubuntu-restricted-extras which will pull in all the required codecs, as well as flash and java.

Edit: Of course, installing them in a live environment will be temporary. They will be gone as soon as you reboot.

U-R-E seemed to clear the music and mp3 problems, but still no joy adding a radio station. What does a valid entry URL look like?
