Wow :) That's really old school. What year was that?

Late '70s, as I recall. Yep, computing in the days when men were men & the sheep were nervous<g>...

BTW, all that bit-switching never actually did much of anything - but I thought it was cool to watch all those LEDs flash in sequence.

Does an abacus count -- how about a sliderule?

OK OK -- in 1983 I built the Tandy trs-80 (85) at school for a project. We did the build/burn-in, configures for Tandy in our region. I was way too cool to brag about it though. In those days in HS - computers were for (fill in appropriate derrogatory adjective). Who knows what OS it used? Also in '83 we learned BASIC -- again -- who knows what OS we were using -- things were pretty slim in those days.

We had a Colecovision, too -- does that count? Some OS ran it...

BUt I'll play nice:

First Open Source operating system you ever installed at home: Caldera OpenLinux (sucked)

Operating systems you currently have installed on your computer: Ubuntu, Sloppy and I beat up an MS sales guy a few years ago and pilfered his Corporate XP (SP1a) disc...so I can dual-boot and still feel the pain of others....but I don't!

Operating systems you use at school / work: Ubuntu, sloppy - but I'll try most anything 2ce. I plan to play with some slack distros this weekend.

What about those cool-**** punch cards we had in the '70's....now those were hi-tech!

I've been wondering-- what does that even mean? Ubuntu, sloppy?

I like to play with repositories. Last week I tried breaking my Ubuntu -- mixing Debain and Ubuntu repositories. Upreading some, changing to different un-supported repo's....

Today, I'm using straight-up Ubuntu. The only appys installed that aren't from Ubuntu's repos are msttcorefonts (or whatever it is) gtk-gnutella and maybe one or two others...but I had to install apache2 for this. No worries.

I have 4 or 5 backups in varying states of sloppy that I like to restore and try to mess up. Sometimes I am able to after I do a dpkg--reconfigure -a.

I call it sloppy - well - because it is.

When I did this with Mepis it just fell apart. FC2 and 3 fell to pieces, suse sucked period, etc. etc.

Ubuntu holds up. Sloppy or no.

I wouldn't advise many to play with their setup like I do. It's fun because of some errors to fix, work around - but inexperienced folks and those needing absolute bullet-proof should probably avoid this methodology. lathough, I consider my box to be pretty damned stable no matter the sloppiness - it's all workable, man.
