This Unity bug doesn't seem to end; the issue is the one where the Unity launcher (in 11.10) loses focus and ends up behind opened windows.

It's a hit-and-miss because it's nearly impossible to find the pattern that leads to this undesirable behaviour. The only solution is to log out and log in until it works. (Or install Gnome Shell, as I'm sure some comments will suggest.)

Some say it's fixed. Some say it's not. (I'm in the latter category.)

This has been going on for months. It seems, on the face of it, that it's a simple thing for the developers to fix.

Or am I wrong?

What happens if you press the Super key (Windows key) and hold it down to show the Launcher?

Doesn't make any difference. The launcher, that sits on the left side of the screen, randomly ends up focused behind the open windows. If I open the dashboard, then it's unusable because the opened windows are in front of it.

This is obviously not the desired behaviour.

And it happens randomly, so it's difficult to find a pattern.
