invisible mouse pointer

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10, i cannot see the mouse pointer, I only get a splash when I press the CTRL button. The pointer shows ok when in Firefox window, but in the Ubuntu desktop it's invisible.
I can't see a way of fixing this in the system settings screen.
Any help appreciated.

Install the Advanced Settings aka Gnome Tweak Tool from the software center . This will allow you to change pointers , but I don't know the cause of the problem other than it is likely upgrade related .
