Running Kubuntu 11.10 on desktop and backlight on monitor stays on regardless. Noticed DPMS is disabled. Is this the culprit? If so how can this be corrected?

Not sure what I did but, monitor backlight is now going out as it should. DPMS is now enabled.
I did reset the System>Power Management settings although I had not changed them previously.
