Yes, It's definitely worth it. One thing that will help you is taking time to learn what the software alternative that ubuntu provides so you know how to do all the things you did on windows with linux.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Applications

and this.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-manual

and for anything in-between the forums are full of nice geeks who will help you.

I have a split partition with Windows and since I was able to get my Ubuntu and the network manager all set up 3 weeks ago I have not been to the other side of my partition.

I am very happy with Ubuntu 10.04 but also have Ultimate Edition 2.7 ( lots of bells and whistles)

Let me share my experience.

Xp -> i always struggled to get new serials and new keygens to protect my applications, Anti virus is the big war . No personal information security . I found there. If i did any wrong stop then reinstall OS is the only option i have got .

Ubuntu -> Here no need to worry about applications , all are free .No word like VIRUS Here.If i got any problem Ubuntuforums , a very friendly community . Even small mistake i did or something wrong with my system , forums will help me to solve that issue .it will give its best to you .

I am sure you gonna like Ubuntu , if you got any problem ,the community is here for you .

Cheers
Raja

depends what you did but there are restopre point there...

No word like VIRUS Here.

Viruses are mostly thing of the past. trojans, worms, rootkits and malware are still arround. Linux is not bullet proof.

I agree with you , but as compare with the security issues we have in windows XP , Ubuntu is several times better.
