Hi guys,

this is a callout to all those north of the sunshine ;-)

I am thinking about re-locating to Scotland, primarily central belt and highly likely Edinburgh.

I was wandering if anyone has any opinions on Broadband availability up there ? has BT Infinity or Virgin Fibre reached there yet ?

High speed connectivity is a major factor in my choice of where i am.

Cheers

Find the capabilities of the nearest exchange with SamKnows
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

I'm in the far north and my exchange only has BT Wholesale so my options are limited.
For example, if you see a package from say Three for £20pm as soon as you enter your postcode it will increase to £27pm because they have to buy bandwidth from BT.
However since broadband arrived here I've been with Scotnet and although not the cheapest I get very good service. The longest I have been on the phone to sort out a problem was about five minutes at 4p/min.

Hi

May I suggest that you need a forum member living in Edinburgh, or close to where you want to locate to specifically, to run the UK Broadband Speed Test.

Here is the link that they need:

http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/speedtest/?gclid=CNqU3qTk3K0CFRIhtAod4T4t2A

I am living down South so that leaves me out. I have just run the test for myself and I am getting Download = 9.6Mb and Upload = 0.4Mb.

I am not the fastest kid on the block but it is better than average for those using my ISP. Which is a Northern outfit (Yorkshire) called Plusnet.

Regards.
