I get a screen with a table like this -

data___________________prog

1:_______________3,7___:
2:_________204ca6,_a___:
3:_________204cc5._a___:
4:_________204ce4._a___:
5:_________204d03,_a___:
6:_________204d1d._a___:
7:_________204d3c._a___:
8:_________204d5b._a___:

err 201:___eff2f6
ip 7d13:____291103.7

What have I done wrong? I was able to get an 8.04 cd to work, and the 11.10 cd works on my laptop. Why doesn't the 11.10 cd work on the desktop I'm trying to install on?

Hitting the escape key briefly gets me to a command prompt. Within seconds the cdrom spools back up and I get the graph again. But before that I get -

graphics initialization failed
Error setting up gfx boot
boot:

If I type in anything I get the error message "Could not find kernel image"

PLEASE, someone has got to know what's going on.

Here's a clue. I've tried a few other install cd's, and they work. If I hit escape when their GUI pops up, it kills the GUI and gives me the same command prompt as above, "boot:". So the Ubuntu install cd is working, but it can't start the GUI on this machine.

It looks like the only thing "boot:" will accept is the kernel image, which is what? Surely not the .iso file?
