Almost all supercomputers and most servers are Linux. Hence you if you are working with a supercomputer (i.e. NASA, heavy Engineering or Hollywood special effects like Avatar) or a large server (i.e. Google, Amazon, eBay) then you are probably working with Linux.

I think Wall Street was running on Linux, I would expect most Banks would do the same.

Linux server = a server running Linux as the operating system. This OS would have programs specially designed to administer server setups and would not need a desktop interface.

Next question = What's a server?
