keyboard not working in Dash?

For some reason, my keyboard is not working in Dash. I mean I can pound away on the keyboard and I *might* get one or two characters. Everywhere else - other apps, terminal, etc. the keyboard works just fine. So far I've found one other instance (on askbuntu.com) of the same thing, but with no answers or solutions.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I have the same problem, but since I'm using my laptop I noticed that it is only an issue with my USB keyboard, the laptop keyboard is just fine.

I tried installing gnome-shell but I get the same results, missing and repeating keys seemingly at random.

It's a bug, and it's been on launchpad for ages!
