First you have to install the Ubuntu classic.

sudo apt-get install gnome-panel

Then select logout from the up right wheel and when you see the logon screen, push the wheel which is at the right of the name box and choose Gnome-classic. Then put your password and logon.

Unfortunately Gnome 2 is gone, so another option is the classicmenu indicator with Unity in conjuntion with myunity to allow some customization or install the xfce desktop which is in the repositories under xfce4. And last but not least is go back 10.04 that will have support until 2013.

How about Cinnamon Desktop?

It´s another alternative but I understand is a fork of Gnome 3 and some people in the community think that it have no future. Watch the last Linux action show: http://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/15496/2012-predictions-las-s20e01/

But only time will tell!!

The Cinnamon Desktop is better than Gnome. But Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop is better than all Desktops :)

I´m a happy user too of 10.04 but nothing is constant except the change. Until that moment 10.04 stay with me.:)
