I am using Ubuntu to diagnose any errors on a Seagate disk. Even though I did the Seagate test and it passed, and Ubuntu tells me the disk is healthy, when I use the Disk Utility, the only entries in red are 'Start / Stop Count' and the result is 'failing' and 'Airflow temperature' and the result is 'failed in the past'. Is the disk on its way out?

I can't in good faith tell you to IGNORE the Disk Utility messages -- but there have been numerous instances where the warnings were "false positives" and, in fact, nothing was wrong with the drive.

I generally use the disk manufacturer's utility to check out a drive -- and since you did that and it appears healthy, it's likely this is another "false postive" from Disk Utility.

That said, it's always a GOOD idea to have backups, because you never know when something is going to fail.
