I've just completed a new install of 11.10 on my Toshiba A30 Satellite.
Suffered a frozen touchpad, and had to use terminal to perform an update yesterday.
This morning I plugged in a new usb mouse and that seemed to work OK.
Update manager wanted to run, so I started that, but getting as fas as "Configuring software-center" in "Applying changes", it has now frozen.
I can't open the details drop down to see where it's reached, but would like advice for the next move.
Do I abandon it, switch off and try again, or can I try anything else first ?

Tapped the on/off button a couple of times, and the hd sprang into life, and a pop up offered shutdown, restart, etc.
Cancelled, and update manager told me to restart.

Now seems to be behaving itself, but I wait nervously.
I'll leave trying to turn the touch pad on for a few days, to let the dust settle.

Having installed Evolution as my preferred email, the Software installer had frozen when I came back to it, and rebooting was the only option as far as I can see.

Life gets tedious, don' it !

PS I'll update my profile when I feel confident that this installation is going to work.
