How do I upgrade a dual boot Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 11.10 from an ISO image or the Ubuntu CD?

simply boot from the CD like a normal install, you will then get the option on the installer to upgrade.

note: upgrades tend to have some bugs, so back up all your important data before proceeding. I recommend always on a fresh install instead of upgrades (takes less space too).

Normally upgrading in order of release is required , but maybe this has changed . The procedure was to upgrade from 10.04 , 10.10 , 11.04 , and finally 11.10 .

You can upgrade 10.04 LTS to the next LTS , which will be 12.04 when released . Know what you are installing ! 10.04 is very different 11.10 .

Many users who have not taken the time to test 11.10 via live cd have returned to this forum with complaints and this can be easily avoided .
