Hello, I downloaded the newest version of ubuntu to my flash drive, but windows doesnt know what program to use to open it.

The Machine I tried to boot up with the flash doesnt recognize the usb flash drive.

There is no ubuntu icon on the file it is one of the unkown file type icons

The machine I tried to install ubuntu 10.10 with a cd, but the cd must be defective from not being used and not stored properly, so thats why I tried to make a boot with the flash drive.

?

Thank You
Tony

I think you have downloaded Ubuntu iso to your falsh drive , if so this is not the way to install ubuntu from flash drive .

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/using-unetbootin-to-create-a-live-usb-linux/

follow that link and enjoy Ubuntu

The download site

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download

has detailed instructions on how to burn a cd or create a bootable usb drive. It is not sufficient to copy the iso image to either cd or usb.

Once you have the Ubuntu file downloaded, you can go to PendriveLinux.com and download the Universal USB Installer from there. That will provide a GUI that will allow you to easily make a bootable USB from the Ubuntu download.
