I was going to buy a new laptop but that seems daft considering I don't have enough money to buy a good laptop and my old laptop works perfectly (despite being 6 years old).

My HP Compaq nx6325 has 1gb of ram. For a small amount I can upgrade to 2gb but I want to know how much ram certain programs use whilst being run to see if it's worth it buying.

I'd like to use screen recorder app (that i got from ubunto center) but that seems very laggy and I'm not 100% sure if it's due to the lack of video ram (only 128mb) or the fact that the programs been used along side screen recorder are taking to big a bite out of my 1gb ram.

Try this:
- Open a terminal
- type the command TOP
- This shows you all the details of each process running

Or:
Go to System > Administration > System Monitor, tab Processess.

I can't believe I managed to overlook something so simple. I thought system monitor was to due with the screen.

Thanks for your help
