In the terminal I keep using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V on accident. I read in another thread that those are reserved for something else and I want to know if what I'm doing is dangerous by hitting those keys together and what are they reserved for?

Ctl/Shift+C will do it for you (replace C for V for pasting). Nothing dangerous has ever happened and never heard of them being reserved for anything else in terminal.

Same as usual but add shift key. :)

ctrl+c is a common keystroke for a break, which might stop an active process from running.

Sorry I know this is solved but in case you didn't know, you can change the keyboard shortcuts in Gnome-Terminal by going to Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts and changing the Copy and Paste actions to your liking.
