View Full Version : [SOLVED] Chat icon in Gnome Classic is too big

I just upgraded to 11.10 from 10.10 a few days ago, and I'm still trying to get my computer set up the way I like it. I ditched Unity almost immediately; I need the window list at the bottom of the screen. Anyways, the top panel is much too big; I think the problem is the chat icon in the logoff menu. Anyone know how to remove it?

You can remove only the entire "Shut Down / Log Out..., ..." menu. Depending on your other setups this may become a problem in the future, for instance how are you going to come to the initial Log In screen, if you are automatically logged in, etc. To remove it, <Alt>+Rght-click the chat icon, and select Remove From Panel.

I'm going to answer my own question here. Apparently, the Indicator Applet has been ported to Gnome 3 by Jason Conti; this basically allows one to have the exact same indicators and menus as in Unity.
