I have been running 10.04 LTS on my Asus eeePC901 netbook for some time, with no particular problems. Now I have made the "mistake" of upgrading to 11.10. The new Unity interface has my eee901 a bit bamboozled: Everything seems to run slower, much slower. And there are several miscellaneous problems. For example, when I minimize an app, say gedit, I can't find it to get it back. Where did it go? Is there supposed to be a bottom panel where minimized apps go? I don't find one. And there are other issues, because the jump to Unity takes a lot of getting used to (I was perfectly content with the user interface of 10.10; didn't know I "needed" something better). Maybe I should go back to 10.04 LTS? Is that even possible? Ubuntu has always been great, but I'm pretty frustrated at present. Any help or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.:(

To get back to a more standard interface check out THIS (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1859961) guide.
To learn more about Unity, check out THIS (http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/Manual/index.html) guide. When you minimize a program it goes back into its little launcher icon on the left - simply click the launcher to unminimize.

If you want to go back to 10.04 you have to do a fresh install, there is no downgrade option available. With respect to the interface, this is supposed to stay for future versions, so either change it or get used to it. Of course, you could consider other options such as Xubuntu, which has a more classical interface (like old Gnome2) and is also lighter on resources, or you could look at Lubuntu, which is supposed to be even lighter than Xubuntu. Both are variations of Ubuntu, just with other graphical interfaces but under the hood it is all based on Ubuntu.
