View Full Version : [ubuntu] Clementine Doesn't Properly Sync to Ipod

I have a 5th Generation Ipod and am trying to sync it with Clementine.

Instead of Clementine modifying the Ipod database, it just copies the music files over as if it were a hard drive. The Ipod cannot play files back this way.

I also don't even get the option to tell it to convert music files to an Ipod friend format. I can either tell Clementine to not convert or convert everything (the middle choice is grayed out).

Are these inherent issues with Clementine and Ipods?

---

I've tried Banshee, Rhythmbox, and Amarok and do not like any of them.

Banshee freezes a lot.
Rhythmbox works, but doesn't move album art over to the Ipod.
Amarok freezes a lot too, and the UI is silly.

I like Clementine so far, but I downloaded for use with the Ipod and it's not working correctly so far.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have Ubuntu 11.10 and the most recent version of Clementine.

Did you just miss this thread? http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1901371

I really think you're going to have to use ITunes or don't buy an IPod. Apple wants to force you into their ITunes stores, so they're going to do everything possible to prevent you from bypassing ITunes. I was never able to get my 5th Generation IPod to work with anything but ITunes, but maybe I just didn't try hard enough.

Did you try gtkpod?

In Ubuntu 11.10 a simple 'sudo apt-get install gtkpod' will do.

Good luck.
