View Full Version : How many OS's are you booting?

Just as the title asks; How many OS's are you booting? I'm booting three, Ubuntu 11.10, Window$ 7 (School), and Chromium OS (Hexxeh's "Lime" build). Cr-OS is on my (relatively) small SSD, and is great for quickly booting up my computer to show someone something online. While I usually boot into Ubuntu for all my main tasks, I'm occasionally forced to use Window$ for School. :\

Currently two (Ubuntu & Fedora), but after I fix the partitioning mess I made, I'm planning 4.

Why multiboot instead of virtualbox? There's a bit of happiness growing inside of me every time I mess up my computer in a new and unusual way :)

Main pc; the Imac - has osx lion, windows 7 64, ubuntu 10.04 studio, puppy linux 5.2, suse 12.1 32 (may be being changed to cent 6 64), pc-bsd 9 rc3 64, and currently building a gentoo 64 install.

Second pc; the netbook - osx snow leopard (naughty I know, but I do own the cd), ubuntu 10.04 netbook, pc-bsd 9 rc3, puppy linux 5.2, Arch.

Work computer; emac - osx tiger +os9 & leopard, then netBSD 5 , debian squeeze and Vine 5 via firewire.

defunct laptop - linux Mint 11, pc-bsd 8, puppy linux 5.2.

project pc - DIY desktop running crunchbang & win 7 / lion- where most of my virtual machines are.

home server; G4 powermac; runs osx tiger.

All the rest are in virtual machines, live cds or usb keys... maybe around 25? I cant check as I'm away for the holidays, but I always have a fedora key, I've had too many bugs with it to want it fully installed, and it never seems to run quite right in a vm.

On my desktop, three at the moment (W7, Ubuntu, Kubuntu), but I'm finding it a bit unnecessary as I only use Ubuntu.

My pc...
Lucid
Mint 12
Xubuntu 11.10
Windows XP

Wife's pc...
Lucid
Windows XP

Lucid is my main distro, Xubuntu second, and trying out Mint. Gnome Shell (Mint) works just fine on my dinosaur pc (Athlon XP3200, 2gigs ram and a GeForce 6600GT). Wife's pc is a pawn shop P4 Dell with 2 gigs ram and a GeForce 6200 (it doesn't like Unity so I stuck with Lucid).

I boot one: Windows.

Because that's what I use, and how I can game perfectly, until Wine decides to become better. (And support RPG Maker XP and newer and the RTPs and Terraria perfectly.) And Linux allows me to install all the codecs I need, for free, legally in the USA. (Including: Quicktime, RealMedia, MP4 / AVI / DivX / Indeo / WinCodecs, etc.) And be able to play them via Parole / Totem.

That you can't use them for free and legally in the US is not a problem with Linux. You'll have to talk to those who do not produce Linux versions and whose proprietary licensing models do not allow you to use them on Linux for free. It's not that Linux doesn't allow you to use them. It's that the developers don't allow you to use them.

So many computers heating up my computer room ...

On my machine in the HAF X case, 5 HDDs, each 2TB, a 250GiB partition for the OS and the rest as common NTFS storage, quintuple boot:

Kubuntu 11.10
Win 7
Fedora 16 with KDE
Debian (which serves as the client for my Beowulf cluster, headless and diskless compute nodes, heterogeneous hardware)
Kubuntu 12.04 development.

Hello
I'm booting 2 OS on this notebook Ubuntu 11.04 and Windows 7 pro but i also use Centos 5.5 and Windows XP in virtual machines.:)
If you prefer to use Ubuntu than Windows and only use Windows for your school job then you would have advantage to install Windows into a virtual machine : it can work fine if you have enough memory.:KS

Too many...

At work: Ubuntu 10.10, Win Xp, Win 7
At home: Linux Mint 12, Fedora 15, Lubuntu 11.10

Soon I will format my home desktop to get rid of those three OS and install just one ( probably Ubuntu Studio 12.04)
