Hello,

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 from CD onto an old (2003?) Compaq laptop.
(Evo N610c)

It hangs at "configuring target". I don't know what that means, or how to correct it.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Some things to try.

Make sure your system meets the system requirements. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

Try to install a few times. Some times it works the second or third time.

Check the disk for defects.

Check the ram (since it is easy and can cause hard to find errors)

Options for both the above can be found when you boot off the disk.

Can you boot to the live cd version of Ubuntu? Try to do that then install form there. If you did that last time then try to install without first booting to the the live cd session.

Configuring target can take some time so make sure you let it run for a long time at least once.

I am not an expert but I have successfully installed Ubuntu a few times, but at other times . . . not.
