11.10 Freezes after Restart/Shut Down

This seems to be a common problem, but I can't tell from the other threads whether my problem is with my graphics/video drivers or not, or how I can figure that out in the first place. I wasn't having this problem for the first month of using 11.10, just started all of a sudden. My system hangs up at the Ubuntu Logo "purple screen" with the 4 or 5 white dots on it. Always gets stuck with 1 dot red and the others white.

Next boot, edit the boot menu and remove the "quiet" and the "splash" options from the kernel boot line, then proceed, and observe the messages. Hopefully you will see where it is having a problem.
