Where can I find a relatively large excel document with numerical data?
Something open for public use, of course.

You can probably try financial reports, such as the daily bhavcopy (daliy price report) of the National Stock Exchange of India *see http://www.nseindia.com/content/equities/eq_historicaldata.htm).

The current bhavcopy runs to over 1500 rows of (mainly) numerical data. You can download other historical reports if you need more data.

It is in .csv (comma separated values) format; this can be easily imported into a Microsoft Excel / OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet.

I pretty sure other financial institutions will also have reams of data available.

I could.
But I would prefer to have something that came from real data.

You could check out the World Fact Book (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/rankorderguide.html).
