I have now experienced this on two different machines running Ubuntu 11.10. After installing Gnome's Alternative Status Menu Extension I can no longer see my top banner. Also nothing really works correctly anymore. The super key does nothing. The only thing I can do is log out and switch to Unity, uninstall Alternative Status Menu Extension, then log back into Gnome Shell and all is well again. This is odd for sure. Anybody else experienced this issue and how do you solve it. Thanks.

I have installed extensions from the PPA at the link and had no problems so far . I know there were extensions available from other sources that are now outdated . I also know that there is a Gnome Shell extensions website now . The PPA continues to update , which is a little easier than checking the website for updates . If you are using the PPA I don't know what the problem may be . http://www.webupd8.org/2011/10/official-gnome-shell-extensions.html

Well darn that did it. I thought I had the PPA installed already, but come to find out I didn't. Installed it and now it works perfect. Thanks.
