Are there any fonts which are common to both a default "out-of-the-box" windows install AND a default Dapper install?

Not to my knowledge - Windows and linux both use their own unique set of fonts, which is why a tool has been made to port windows fonts to linux.

Hmmm that's a shame. I guess it is best to use windows fonts as default for websites then in the hope that Linux users have also installed the font.

font-family in CSS exists for a reason.

Oh I know, it's just that it would be nice to have the first font in the family as one I know works on both linux AND windows, so that as many people as possible see the page as I intend it to look. Then the following fail-safe fonts would be shown to VERY few people.

Still I can specify something that looks ver ysimmlar i suppose, perhps Verdana then bitstream sans serif... something like that
