Just wondering; wouldn't it be possible to browse the Software Center content through a normal website on any given machine and browser?

Not that I wouldn't be using the software center in the normal way, but I would like to be able to brag to friends about the amount of free software I have access to through my "Ubuntu App Store" - much like when you go to the Android Market:
https://market.android.com/
Could be a really nice addition to the Ubuntu.com (http://www.ubuntu.com/) website, and could be only a small job to link/process into standard HTML pages. What do you think? Is this the right thread - could be input for Ubuntu.com (http://www.ubuntu.com/)?

I am pretty sure it is possible, as openSUSE has a similar feature if I remember correctly.

Personally, I don't think it is worth the development effort, that time could be better spent fixing bugs or working on new features on the OS itself. Sure, it my be nice for people to view what is available in Ubuntu without actually running it, but if they are that interested they could just run Ubuntu off the live CD.

You can view the available Ubuntu packages here, but it doesn't have screen shots or anything fancy like that:

I think it's a good idea, I don't think it'd be hard or time consuming for an experienced web developer to do. A little xml and javascript and bobs your aunty. I'd certainly send that to my friends, the package search is gross, time to get graphical.

Popped a message to Canonical on this some days ago and forgot all about...

Then, today, stumples upon this articles on USC actually already available through a generic web interface:

The Ubuntu Software Center can be browsed at this location:

Nice. You even get all the user reviews with this.
