Is there any gui commander application that can browse rar,zip files like mc and total commander ( in windows )??

midnight commander (http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/mc) itself is in the package repository, if you're looking for it.

xarchiver should do that and I think it is installed by default. You can check with the Software Center to make sure.

XArchiver needs plugins for each format, so you need things like p7zip, unzip, unrar etc.

If I understand correctly, you want a GUI file manager that will treat archives like normal directories and open them in the file list pane (not in a separate application)?

Two choices:
Krusader (my favorite, needs lots of KDE stuff)
Tuxcmd +tuxcmd-modules (old but light, doesn't work with 7z or RAR)

Exactly what i want. Ill try Krusader then. I use mc also , but its nice to have a GUI file manager.
