I have been trying the Linux command line off and on for several years. I went thru a lot of tutorials. Most of them worked until a certain point. I finally tried http://linuxcommand.org/. I highly recommend it. Earlier versions of it were just a little wonky, but the newest version is really very good. Just about all the examples have worked for me.

I recently started reading Running Linux first edition. It is a good read, but got stuck at the point where it describes the boot process using LILO. I have ordered the newest edition, 5th Edition, ISBN-10: 0-596-00760-4.
Wikipedia is a very good source for Linux topics.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04. Can anybody point me to a discussion of the boot process as it pertains to Ubuntu?
