Due to a bad .init file (I presume) I can't even reinstall ubuntu because it always fails to mount the filesystem. Do I need to format the hard drive so I can just install fresh? How would I do that from knoppix? Would formatting the hard drive delete the BIOS as well?

How can I get the installation usb to work. I choose the option "Install ubuntu on a hard disk" at the main menu for the boot disk and all it gives me is

iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode firmware file req failed: -2
could not read microcode: -2
