My own favorite is getting it pre-installed with a computer.

I prefer CD/DVD make's it easier/faster to install to various PC's of all ages such as those that don't support usb bootup.

I prefer to use a minimal CD to start and build up my (K)ubuntu, then after that dist-upgrade to the next release. It saves on bandwidth when you only install/upgrade what you need and want and nothing you don't.

I'm used to burning a distro onto a DVD...Been doing it for years.

Initially I like to just download it from the internet with my web browser. Then I'd prefer to put it on a usb stick for short term keeping and install from that. If I really like the distro, it definitely deserves a CD/DVD.

I prefer CD because of reliability and I generally feel safer using a Live CD before installation.

I download the iso file with bittorrent and then burn to a dvd. If i'm just testing a distro i'll use a usb stick instead.

I download it via Transmission.
Then burn it with Brasero (yes) to a CD. I used a thumb drive for a while and liked that, but my thumb drive malfunctions now. And I don't bother buying a new one.

I don't think some of you guys are understanding the question. I think the question is how do you get the ISO or installation media, now how you install it. So do you get the ISO over straight HTTP or FTP download, bit torrent, or order the CDs.
I personally download the ISO over HTTP, I have used bit torrent in the past though. From there I usually just put the ISO on a USB key to install on my computers.

I usually download the iso using http/ftp at the start of a testing session, then use zsync to update the daily live iso.

I use torrent, as it's the fastest download speed, especially right after release.

I use torrent because it is the most reliable/fastest way of downloading large files. I am guaranteed to have good file integrity, since bit-torrent checks the integrity as it downloads. It also shares the bandwidth amongst many people so that no single mirror is being overloaded.

I don't use Bit Torrent because I thought it opened up your PC so it made it easier for someone to get at your hard drive. Am I wrong on that. That why I down load directly from a site.

Torrent. And then leave it seeding for a long-long time. Especially for new releases. This is the contribution that costs nothing:)

I would like to use bittorrent (don't worry Johnny3, bittorrent does not make your computer more vulnerable to attack), but unfortunately my ISP sometimes throttles or even entirely blocks bittorrent traffic. So I generally download the .iso from http://www.ubuntu.com/download.

I usually use debootstrap to download and install the packages from a local mirror.
