Hi everyone,
I am new here. Have never really used ubuntu until now.
Trying to install this onto my old computer.

Having quite a bit of trouble here.
I tried reading through all the how tos and the guide and did searches on the problems I had and I have managed to get past those huddles without too much problem (I have spent 10 hours on this installation now, still not done)

So I finally registered and decided to seek a little wisdom from the users here.

So I got the USB-Live (ubuntu 11.10) to boot and have tried going "Try buntu without installation", and also using F6 to nomodeset, and tried typing a command that would solve the graphics card issue that goes something like "i951....", tried selecting all the options in F6, tried just doing install, and tried Persistent Mode.

All of which was unsucessful.
I am at a point where I see a bunch of code loading, and it stops at this line
Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0

Any ideas?

my computer specs:
Core 2 Quad
Ram DDR3 4 gb
Nvidia GTX 260
SATA hard drive
IDE hard drive
IDE DVD-rom

Thanks!

I think I have a similar problem. I get four of those lines when trying to install:

Attached scsi generic sg4 type 0
Attached scsi generic sg5 type 0
Attached scsi generic sg6 type 0
Attached scsi generic sg7 type 0

I think those refer to the memory card readers that are built in the machine. I've got a HP Pavilion HPE desktop.

Hope someone out there can help us with this.
