Is there a way that I can install Ubuntu on USB without using the installer version? I don't want to install it, I just want a portable OS which I can plug in to any PC.

I would be fine with the installer version, but at the moment it breaks SO often it is unreal, I find myself re-installing 2-3 times a week, because putting upgrades on, or doing just about anything else seems to cause it to get stuck after selecting the "Run Ubuntu from this USB" option.

I am largely just interested in using bashee to listen to music, but I will be doing some limited web browsing and bits and pieces too.

Thanks.

Why not install Ubuntu to another usb stick. If you select to install grub to the same usb stick, you won't interfere with your computers bootloader.
